Multi-State Games

There are multi-state games that are shared between multiple states throughout the Unites States. The games that appear in the most states are Powerball, Mega Millions and Hot Lotto.

Powerball

Powerball drawings take place on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Players choose five numbers between one and 53 and one PowerBall number between one and 42. There are nine ways to win powerball. Players win the jackpot by matching all five numbers and the PowerBall number. Players who match all five numbers without the PowerBall number receive $100,000 in cash. Any time a player matches the red PowerBall, he or she wins. Power Play is a special feature that allows players to multiply their winnings by 2, 3, 4 or 5. Power Play is not applicable to the jackpot. The overall odds of winning a prize are one in 36.06. Plays cost $1 and the Power Play is an additional charge.

Mega Millions

In Mega Millions players choose five numbers between one and 52 and one number between one and 52, which is selected from a different pool. If a player matches all six numbers, he or she wins the jackpot. In addition to the jackpot, there are prizes ranging from $2 to $175,000. There are nine ways to win Mega Millions. Jackpots start at $10 million and players can choose whether they want to receive them in one lump sum or in annual payments. Overall chances of winning a prize are one in 43.

Hot Lotto

When playing Hot Lotto players choose five numbers between one and 39. Then players pick their Hot Ball, from one to 19. Players can purchase up to 10 consecutive drawings at one time. Drawings take place at 10 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday. Players win the jackpot by matching all five numbers and the Hot Ball. There are nine ways to win in total. Overall odds of winning are one in 19. Players who win the jackpot can choose whether they want to receive their money in annual installments or in a lump sum. The jackpot will be divided if there are multiple winners.
